Winter Shorts (And How To Wear Them)

Ahh... the approach of fall... one of my favorite seasons of the year! Except, it's not coming fast enough. In the South, fall and spring only exist about 3 weeks out of the year. Right now, it's 98°F with a heat index of 105°F with no drop of temperature in sight. Oh don't worry, this isn't a heat wave. This is normal. It's just Mississippi. :P

Most of you probably think it's ridiculous to wear shorts in the winter. Since it rarely drops below 40°F during the winter in the South, I think shorts (with tights or leggings) is a fabulous idea although the trend hasn't really sparked down here. Then again, Mississippi doesn't catch onto trends as quickly as the rest of the nation. :/

Although I get strange looks from strangers wearing shorts in the dead of winter, I don't really care. For one, I don't get cold very easily. Ever since my wool pants to shorts tutorial, I have been looking for wool pants of every color to convert into shorts. This week, I've made a pair of brown, navy, and black leather shorts!

Feast your eyes!

I can't wait to wear these! I was sweating just trying on these outfits! Let me break down on how to wear these babies.

Leather shorts. Believe it or not, they are in style this fall. Along with leather leggings. I am a big fan of leather. Not the fake, vinyl stuff. Real, supple leather that came from an animal. It has such a nice feel and smell. Since leather has a masculine feel, you want to tone it down with more feminine tops with lace, polka dots, or light colors. As for shoes, anything will work. Flats, ankle or knee-high boots, loafers, oxfords, heels, you name it! Here, I am wearing an ivory cardigan with a coral pink bandeau top underneath with black tights and dark grey suede ankle boots.

Here is a before photo of how the leather pants looked. I got them off eBay. Excelled brand.

Wool Shorts. Wool shorts are so easy to dress up or down! They even look good with a blazer and ruffled button-up shirt for work attire. When wearing wool shorts, they always look good with dark colored tights. You can basically wear all kinds of tops (button-up, cardigans with tank tops, loose fitted, etc.) with these shorts. I would NOT recommend giant t-shirts though. As for shoes, laced oxfords, loafers, ankle boots, knee-high boots, and even Converse sneakers would look good with these.

Here, I am wearing a ivory ruffled lace button-up, navy tights with the brown wool shorts, cranberry red tights with the navy shorts. I have on tan lace up oxfords with the navy shorts and brown lace up ankle booties with the brown shorts.

Excuse the terrible lighting. They are indeed brown.

Before shot of the brown pants before they became shorts. My big sister gave these to me. Old Navy brand.

Navy shorts outfit.

Here is the before of the navy pants. They appear handmade with no tag. I bought them at the thrift store.

It's so easy to wear shorts in winter/fall! You can create so many great outfits and they look good casual or office attire! Thanks for reading and if you have any questions or comments, just leave them below. :)

I am set for fall! Bring it!

    1. I've had several friends and family check to see if the pictures loaded and everything loaded fine for them. Sometimes you may have to disable the ad-blocker program on your browser or anti-virus.
